Meridian Promotes the Alberta APPLE Program

BURLINGTON, ON – Meridian Edmonton, Canada’s valve specialist, prepared and served the first meals supporting the Alberta Project Promoting active Living and healthy Eating (APPLE).  Six volunteers from Meridian, including Lorne Compton, Mike Paris, Natasha Fitzgerald, Janelle Kulak, Dana Kautz and Bryn Murray, helped to prepare and serve over 200 healthy lunches to the classrooms at Lee Ridge Elementary school. The student’s had the opportunity to enjoy whole-wheat pasta with tomato sauce and cheese, fresh vegetables, milk and frozen banana pops.  Each entrée was prepared by the Meridian staff.

“Meridian is a proud supporter of community programs and was fortunate to be able to take part in this program,” said Bryn Murray, General Manager. “Volunteerism is an important part of our corporate culture and our team enjoys getting involved; especially in support of children.”

Lee Ridge Elementary is one of ten APPLE Schools in Alberta, looking at ways to create healthy, sustainable school communities, and was the first school to pilot a healthy hot lunch program.
