Ferguson "can" make a difference

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Ferguson associates recently banded together to stock area food bank shelves with much needed supplies for the holidays.  In keeping with the friendly, competitive spirit that is alive and well at Ferguson, the food drive featured a sculpture contest. Working in teams, Ferguson associates from their Newport News headquarters crafted four different displays — each uniquely related to the plumbing industry and charities supported by Ferguson — and collected more than 10,000 items for the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula.

“Ferguson associates are passionate about participating and giving back to the community,” said John Stegeman, President and CEO of Ferguson. “There are many families and individuals on the peninsula in need of a meal.  I am pleased our associates are caring and considerate of others who need help during challenging times.”

Steve Terveer, CEO of Foodbank, and volunteer judges Kathy Johnson, executive director for Alternatives and Linda Hansen, creativity director for Alternatives toured the facilities and talked to Ferguson associates about the need to help the community.  The winning sculpture entitled “Flushing Hunger,” featured a three-foot by four-foot toilet made of more than 600 cans — complete with Ferguson logo, magazine rack and tiled floor. To add to the spirit of holiday giving, a four-foot holiday tree, made completely of cans, was also part of the winning sculpture.
