Training Program Details
We Invest in People.
You won't put on a suit your first day with us. You'll wear steel-toed shoes and casual clothing, and you'll start at one of our branches. You'll become well acquainted with our products, learn our procedures and develop invaluable contacts and friendships.
One of the things many trainees find attractive about Ferguson is the variety of career options available. You'll become a part of a training program that offers a lot of initial hands-on training and continuous programs of formalized training. This training can take you in several directions, depending on your interests, personal skill sets and available opportunities. All paths begin with an investment of time working in one of our branch warehouses.
Sales Trainee Program
The Sales Training Program is a 12-18 month program designed to educate, develop, and retain talented inside sales and showroom sales trainees needed for both branch and regional growth initiatives. The program invests in the recruiting of associates from all over the United States to join Ferguson in pursuit of a career in sales and management. Once onboard, new associates start in a location where they complete a 12-month training program designed to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities as inside sales and showroom sales associates. The training curriculum includes time working in warehouse operations, counter sales, inside (contractor) sales, and showroom (retail) sales. As a sales trainee, you should be open to relocation for future opportunities. Upon completion of the Sales Training Program, sales trainees may be asked to relocate to other Ferguson branches where career opportunities exist in inside sales or showroom sales. Sales associates will be responsible for managing all sales functions for existing and prospective customers. Typical job duties include: developing and maintaining customer relationships, providing accurate pricing/inventory information to customers, preparing job quotes, and conducting sales calls to generate business.

Purchasing and Integrated Trainee Programs
The Purchasing and Integrated Trainee Programs are 18 month programs designed to educate, develop, and retain talented trainees needed for purchasing and integrated growth initiatives. The programs invest in the recruiting of associates from all over the United States to join Ferguson in pursuit of a career in supply management. Once onboard, new associates are assigned to a branch where they complete a 6-month orientation program designed to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities as supply chain associates. Supply Chain Trainee Program
As Ferguson expands our market presence, as well as breadth of products and services offered, it is becoming more imperative that we develop a stronger "bench" within the organization from which we can draw talent. There is a need to bring the recruits up to speed as efficiently as possible while giving them broad knowledge of every aspect within the company. The 12 month Supply Chain Training Program is set up to provide a more structured program for supply chain trainees, which will make them a more valuable asset sooner, and help reduce the turnover in this early stage of their individual career.
As part of the model, several training locations have been identified within each geographic region based on the distribution center network. The training concept for supply chain is based on the idea that within the respective areas of the country that the BWO senior territory managers and distribution centers operate, there will be at least one training branch for each distribution center (excluding Pipe) that will develop the pool of talent for the dedicated and blended branches of that area.
