Diversity and Inclusion

At Wolseley, we recognize the value of diversity as we strive to meet the needs of our customers and distinguish ourselves as an employer of choice.

Diversity is any characteristic that differentiates one person from another or one group from another. Diversity includes everyone and excludes no one. Inclusion is a state of being valued, respected, empowered, and supported and is established through relationships that support the full utilization of a diverse workforce. At Wolseley, diversity and inclusion aren't initiatives, they're imperatives.

The unique differences and strengths of Wolseley's North American companies have positioned us as the premier distributor within our industry. Our competitive advantage is drawn from these differences and strengths and enables us to successfully integrate diversity into all aspects of our business.

By offering an environment that empowers its employees to leverage their creative, cultural, and communicative skills, we create a synergy that promotes success for our workforce, our customers, our vendors, our share holders, and the communities we serve.

Initiatives

The primary objective of the Department of Diversity & Inclusion is to drive the vision, strategy, and implementation of our diversity initiatives, to partner with our leadership and management teams, and to collaborate across department lines and business units.

By implementing programs such as diversity training, employee resource groups, mentorship programs, and work/life initiatives, we are raising awareness and sensitivity throughout our organization and promoting an inclusive work environment where employees are valued, respected, empowered, and supported.

To further supplement and drive our diversity & inclusion initiatives, a Diversity Council comprised of a cross section of individuals from different business units from across the organization has been established. The purpose of the Diversity Council is to evaluate strategy and initiatives and to recommend comprehensive feedback. The council meets quarterly to review progress and to recommend future action steps. Steve Roznowski, Senior VP of Human Resources for Wolseley North America serves as the council's executive sponsor.

Recruiting Diversity

The emergence of a global economy has changed the face of the workforce, the workplace, and the marketplace. Due to this demographic shift, the war for talent among top employers is extremely competitive; however, we are committed to hiring the best and the brightest talent of all backgrounds and abilities. We compete with organizations everyday that have strong corporate brands and dazzling marketing campaigns, but we offer something more than "bells and whistles." We offer an opportunity for personal, professional, and financial growth, and that is what drives a smart career decision.

The nature of our business can impact our diversity as well. We are a large organization with an enormous distribution network encompassing the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Caribbean. To ensure that our customer's needs are timely and efficiently met, our distribution network requires that we have a presence not only in large cities and metropolitan areas, but also in small, rural, and remote markets as well. The challenge is to source, develop and place talent in markets (large and small) to support our overall growth objectives.

In spite of these challenges, we continue to successfully recruit diversity. Diverse talent plays a vital role in our on-going success and enables us to adapt to the changes in our markets and our customer base. As the premier distributor within our industry, we recognize the value of diverse talent as we strive to meet the needs of our customers and distinguish ourselves as an employer of choice.
