Smart property protection with Automist
Water mist fire suppression system innovation
Automist by Plumis offers a new way to provide fire protection. This innovative water mist fire suppression system delivers a targeted, high-pressure mist, targeting the source of the fire and minimizing water damage. This award-winning system is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional 13D fire sprinkler systems because it is easy to install in both new builds and retrofit applications, it uses less water, requires less water pressure, and reduces the risk of both water and fire damage.
Water mist fire protection systems vs. traditional sprinkler systems
Automist, like a traditional 13D fire sprinkler system, is a fire suppression system designed to suppress and control fire growth, limit heat release and smoke production, enable safe occupant escape, and support fire service intervention. Where they differ is how these two systems operate.
Water mist fire protection systems
Automist engages the power of AI for firefighting through an innovative system that uses thermal imaging to detect the source of a fire more intelligently than traditional sprinkler systems. Thermal imaging allows the system to locate the fire source and deploy a targeted fine water mist directly to it. This system is so intelligent, it can detect the difference between a harmless flame source, such as a stove or fireplace, and a flame that poses a property threat.
This wall-mounted system deploys a high-pressure mist with water droplets roughly .01mm in size. The lower mounting system allows the mist to come in contact with the source of the fire plume, instead of becoming lost in the hot layer above the fire.
The advanced technologies used in this high-pressure mist system means that Automist offers up to 14x faster activation than traditional fire sprinkler systems. Early activation saves lives by limiting the smoke exposure, allowing time for occupants to exit the building, and reducing property damage.
Automist by Plumis is the first high-pressure mist system on the market to gain UL certification under UL2167A, allowing Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to approve it as an alternative to traditional 13D fire sprinkler systems.
Traditional sprinkler systems
Traditional fire sprinkler systems have sprinkler heads mounted from the ceilings or high up on walls. These sprinkler heads are capable of deploying anywhere between 10 and 50 gallons of water per minute. These systems deploy water droplets roughly 1mm in size to the entire area beneath the nozzle with gravity as momentum. Because this water falls from above, some of the water deployed evaporates in the hot upper layer before hitting the flame itself.
High-pressure mist system water savings
Automist by Plumis offers a targeted approach to fighting fires with a high-pressure mist system that uses up to 90% less water than traditional fire sprinkler systems, minimizing both fire and water damage simultaneously. At most, Automist uses 2.4 gallons of water per minute, resulting in far less water consumption and water damage than traditional fire sprinkler systems.
Minimize damage risks with mist suppression
The Automist system detects the source of the fire quickly and accurately. The speed and accuracy with which the system delivers a high-pressure mist to suppress the fire minimizes fire and smoke damage to the property.
Insurance considerations for water mist fire suppression systems
Because Automist reacts up to 14x faster than a traditional fire sprinkler system, this fire suppression system increases survivability and reduces both fire and water damage, which is appealing to both homeowners and insurers.
New vs. retrofit applications for water mist fire suppression systems
This system offers a plug-and-play design that’s easy for professionals to install, making it the ideal fire suppression system for both new properties and retrofit applications. The tank-free design connects directly to your water main, eliminating the need for bulky pipe or equipment.
Because it uses so little water, it’s also a great alternative for traditional fire sprinkler systems when you’re faced with low water pressure properties, ADUs, modular construction homes, historic properties, or homes prone to freezing pipes or seismic activity.
