Benefits of LED Lighting for Pros

Let’s talk about light-emitting diodes, or as they’re more commonly known: LED.

Imagine your customer has a space that needs new lights. . They want lighting that’s efficient, reliable, and cost-effective. While functionality is important, they also want lighting that is pleasing to the eye and creates the atmosphere they’re looking for. With all this considered, there is no better choice for your customer than LED lighting.

Benefits of LED lighting for Contractors

Not only are they the most efficient—LEDs, far and away, are the most versatile type of light bulb, making them a worthy investment for customers looking to illuminate a space of any kind—indoor, outdoor, residential, or commercial.

Energy

LED lights are free of toxic mercury, making them incredibly energy efficient and eco-friendly. With LED, your customers are reducing energy costs, carbon footprints, and disposal hassles—the value they get for opting for LED installation shows up in ways that far exceed their investment.

Durability

LED lights boast quite a long lifespan, and a big part of that is due to their toughness. They’re far less likely to crack or succumb to external impacts and they retain functionality in temperatures as high as 120°F or as low as -40°F. Because of their physical dependability, LED lights greatly reduce the amount of customer callbacks—the first installation is often the last installation for a very long time.

Quality

The color of light that is produced by LED bulbs is relatively gentle on the eyes. LED light bulbs typically have a high CRI (Color Rendering Index) rating, which means they can accurately shine in essentially any color at adjustable intensities. And because LED lighting can be tuned at installation to match the environment, décor, or customer preference—your customer can adapt lighting without needing a new product or a service call.

How long do LED lights last?

Unlike most other types of light, it typically takes years for an LED to completely burn out, but not every LED has the exact same lifespan.

This is where average rated life (ARL) is important.

An LED’s ARL rating tells you how long before the bulb dims to a certain percentage of its original power after 50,000 hours of use. So, if a given LED light denotes a L70 ARL rating, that means that after 50,000 hours, it will have dimmed to about 70% of its original power.

However, this doesn’t account for typical lifespan-shortening factors such as how often the light is turned on and off, potential circuitry issues, and environmental conditions that could impact the light’s efficacy.

Ultimately, how long an LED light lasts truly depends on the type of LED light and how it’s to be used—so it’s important to take note of that ARL rating to ensure you’re getting the appropriate light for the fixture you’re installing.

Types of LED Light Bulbs

Because of the versatility of LED—it’s often the best option for any light fixture. That versatility appears in light bulbs that come in a solid handful of shapes, sizes, and positions.

Panel LED

Panel LEDs commonly appear in one of a couple types of light fixtures: surface‑mount and recessed-mount flat panels. Surface-mount flat panels are designed to install directly onto a finished ceiling surface when a dropped T‑grid ceiling is not available while recessed-mount flat panels are designed to drop into a lay‑in T‑bar ceiling. Panel LEDs are great for commercial offices, schools, hospitals, retail stores, or any space with a standard suspended ceiling grid.

Track LED

The adjustability of track heads combined with the power of LED makes these fixtures very flexible in their application. Some spaces, such as stages and studios, are meant to be dynamic with ever-changing areas and objects to shine a light on—so they need lighting fixtures that can keep up. Track LED light fixtures are almost akin to actual eye movement in the way that they allow your clients to position and focus them as they see fit.

Accent LED

These are the most form-fitting, most decorative LED light fixtures available. Your customer may ask you to help them drape this type of fixture over a tree, wrap it around a monitor, hang them from a ceiling—accent LED fixtures can be shaped and coordinated to give any room a distinct personality and style.

LED & smart building integration

The global advancement of smart technology has made everyday convenience more accessible than ever. Many of your customers can control so much of their world with a few taps of a screen. As smart building integration becomes less of a luxury and more of a norm—maybe even a necessity, for some people—LED lighting, and its potential for advanced lighting controls becomes the most illuminating choice. Your residential customers can set their outdoor LED lighting to dim at a certain time, while your commercial customers can set their store lights to turn on hours before open, and they both can save so much money on their electricity bills.

What is new in industrial LED lighting?

The evolution of industrial LED lighting continues to help businesses operate at their best and host guests comfortably, at any capacity. For example, smart AI features are becoming more accessible than ever, and now, AI advancements not only allow for higher ease-of-use, but they also have energy-saving functions that react and adjust to their surroundings—making AI-integrated LED light fixtures more durable and cost-effective upfront.

Technology

Recently, many LED lights come with smart controls and built-in motion sensors that dim or completely cut in areas that don’t have a lot of foot traffic—allowing savings on energy costs.

Tri-proof materials

Newer LED lighting fixtures are made with materials that are waterproof, dustproof, and anti-corrosive—such as sapphire glass—making them more equipped to withstand extreme conditions.
